So I've already thought up some ideas. Our project will be on what is the best country? This will include USA, Germany, China, Switzerland, and Japan. I figured what we will be talking about will be related to the topic of the human condition and by that I've already thought of a few categories and each person will get one; human rights, animal rights, justice system, and standard of living(need one more.) I also thought we should take a survey before asking which the class thinks with other being an option(probably biasly America.) THe talking of the survey results and explanation of what we are doing can be like a three minute intro. We would then go on to talk about each category(different person for each) for about 5 minutes a peace including using the chalkboard and reaching out to the class. I figured maybe Greg or will, will want to do a song about theirs with a short expo after. Live would be better with maybe the rest of us with a maroca or something in the background. Each five minute thing should also have other members of our group intergecting for example if sal is talking about how crowded China is I can add look how crowded NYC is or something to fuel the topic. Both bad and good things must be said about each country like Germany has terrible animal rights and such. Finally ending with a two minute conclusion that will have a raise of hand servay to see how the results differ. Besides research on each person topic we will each have two jobs like work cited, intro and conclusion, song, the first survey(on paper) etc. Finally I think we should dress up in all suits
I like the idea of bringing the music into the presentation because it grabs the attention of the class but we have to limit it to what instruments can be stuffed into a school bag or locker, also, it has to be logical and stay on topic, not turn into Karl taking over the show while playing his triangle. Ill take Switzerland, and maybe for the last topic, we can combine government with human rights or maybe talk about it separately. If that is the case, we can see if they have similar national issues going on just as America does, and if not maybe their opinion on the situation here.
hey yall, i think this is a pretty awesome idea, and im feelin a 100 on this. I'll take the US of A. I'm thinking that I could talk about some of the pros and cons of living in the US. I feel that if we all talk about the same topics, it'll be a little repetitive. If we expand on whats good about the country, it'll be more interesting and attention-grabbing. I could talk about the education system, costs of living, human rights, security, the government, and animal rights. Will and I are thinking of writing a song, so be prepared. I'll also do the works-cited. I'm also thinking maybe Pica could do a little poetry on his country, but it's just an idea.
Well, we are going to need to talk about relativley the same thing because we can't just dig up dirt on another country and have that person get stuck and not know how to respond, we need to coordinate and have practically the same topics to make it organized
Alright, so I have a pretty awesome idea: let's run our presentation sorta like a board room meeting, in which we debate and argue over whos country is better? Like we could get some dirt on the opposing countries, and then we have to defend our country. I feel like this a fast-paced (and controlled) way to give it. I also don't think anybody else is going to think of doing it like this, so we'll obviously get 20/20 on the creative part. Let me know what y'all think
So this website lists all of the countries rankings, ranging from freedom percentage to unemployment to GDP.Literally, every country is on here. It gives quick facts along with detailed graphs and analysis. It also gives some of the latest headlines involving the government, how corrupt it is, and freedom in business. I feel this could really help get the scoop on the enemy countries, and if we utilize this website, we could really incorporate some hardcore research. l3t m3 kn0w wat u th1nk
I also have an idea about how to use the powerpoint in our presentation. Since it'll be hard to work it into the whole board room thing, we could put up the survey, the thesis, and then maybe some facts and statistics that we want to show the class. Sheridan, that website that I posted has some pretty good graphs and stuff that we could show.We could also show how living conditions in general have increased as a whole on a powerpoint. If you guys have any other ideas, lettuce know.
Yo guys I just had an idea that might help make the presentation a little more organized. Since we are doing it as a board meeting and we need to look up dirt on each other's countries I thought we could choose a country to look up dirt on. For example, I would talk only about the bad qualities of the United states. While Bill could take about the problems with Germany.
Hey guys I just thought of something that will add a lot of color to our presentation. I can play a quick Japanese tune on my sax. I can say something like listen to how beatuiful my country is. Then mocking someones country, )probably Bill)I'll be like if your country was music it would sound like this and play something bad. This could also tie into what Greg and Bill are doing after they do a song about their country.
I feel we can maybe talk and debate briefly about which country is the strongest musically after we perform our songs. And we can talk about the opportunities those involved in fine and performing arts can have in each country. Greg and I (Bill) are going to perform a short tune for the class about China and America. Sal can perform his sax tune. And then we can each briefly discuss how the arts play a role in the country's culture.
Hey fellas, Sal and I (Bill) just spoke to Mrs. F in class and I just thought I'd let you know because none of yall were in. We have to be mindful that although we are being very creative with all of these ideas, we have to make sure our presentation focuses on our research and arguments. We gotta use the poems/songs etc. to support our arguments on the quality of life in our countries. Also, every fact/statistic that is discussed should be cited with MLA Format and a brief explanation of why it is important (we can have more than two) these will count as blog posts.
Yo Bill, i have an idea as to what our song can be about: we can make it how The US of A and China are partners. We can sing about how we help their booming export industry and how that it helps the living conditions down in China-land. We can alsoe sing about how your cheap labor and products make it easier for us Americanos to buy goods at a reasonable price and that it helps our economy boom, also.
This is for you, Billy the Kid. I got some dirt on good ol' Merica. http://ije.oxfordjournals.org/content/23/5/984.short It pretty much says that chinese people who live in America are fatter than Chinese people living in China. You could talk about how our food is less healthy, or how we're all just fat and sutff. I could maybe talk about how much better the food is and that we have bigger portions for a counter-argument. idunno, lemme know. Lee MM, Wu-Williams A, Whittemore AS, et al. Comparison of dietary habits, physical activity and body size among Chinese in North America and China. Int J Epidemiol 1994; 23: 984–990
So I was thinking we would have a semi-script thing, maybe it starts out with a few line but most stuff will be generalized like Sal: Talk About Chinses household Greg: Counter with Crowdeness etc. I think it will make out presentation alot easyer to remember and better than just putting in some bullet points
I dont' see how to attach a file but we should all take turns and just add to this till we are done.
Script thingy Karl: Is everybody here? China, Switzerland, Japan, German, and of course USA Everyone: Here Karl: Well I guess we can start this board meeting on who has the better country. Sheridan, Slideshow. Greg: Remark on how it’s obviously America Sheridan: Starts Slideshow Explains the survey and our thesis Greg: Stands up Is there a point to this we all know America is the best Will: At what being fat Greg&Will: Starts argueing Karl: Enough we will settle this like men, and by that I mean in an orderly action. Sal how about you start it off. Sal:
Yoyoyoyoyo lards, We are moving our denim (mom) Jean company out of Greece. Here are the categories we will discuss: 1) unemployment rate 2) taxes 3) overall living conditions (food, pollution, etc.) 4) school systems 5) women 6) music/arts 7) men 8) justice/government systems 9) human rights 10) economic systems
Howdy Y'all, I was thinking maybe we can try and add something to our presentation to bring the class into the "Meeting" maybe make some "calls" or something maybe put someone on the spot to lighten the mood a little and make it more appealing to the class and not just us trying to impress Mrs. Foti to get a 100 (which we are going to get anyway). Let's brainstorm some ideas
Ross, John. "China Has the World's Fastest Growth in Living Standards." China.org.cn. N.p., 24 Oct. 2013. Web. 06 May 2015.
Alright my little buddies... This will be a useful source because it discusses both the connection between economic and living conditions in China. It displays a chart that shows how China has the largest increase in consumption than any other country. I could use this to support my argument because it will help our jean company sell more of our product. It also discusses the correlation of how GDP per capita effects life expectanc. China has been and still is experiencing a great amount of rapid economic growth and development. As the economy grows, living standards are increased. This will only support my argument.

This source can be useful because it shows the unemployment rate in China and how this rate has been a consistent 4.1%. This can be used when discussing how many people we will need to hire and what wages can be important. **This website can be useful for you guys to find all of the unemployment rates***
-Also Greg (silver dollar Dico), you might wanna check this citation I'm not sure if it's right. Check it out boi.
"China Tax and Tax Laws." - WorldWide-Tax.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 06 May 2015.
This source is useful because it discuses all of the different tax rates that will effect us individually and as a company in China and I'm pretty sure you can find the tax rates for each country. I cited it for China though, so check it out.
"World Report 2014: China." World Report 2014: China. Human Rights Watch, n.d. Web. 06 May 2015.
Alright ladies, This article discusses many aspects of human rights in China. It discusses the matters of religious freedom, freedom of expression, health and disability rights, women's disability rights, migrant and labor rights, sexual orientation rights, and the foreign policies. Each of these human rights categories will obviously have an effect on us when we decide to move to whichever country. This website seems extremely useful so check it out.

Doodies (lol), So this is my final post for the night. This site discusses the levels, strength, and structure of education in China. It'll be good for us to talk about education so we will know the knowledge level of the workers we decide to hire.
I found this on quality of living and i think it probably helps you alot sheridan http://www.mapsofworld.com/world-top-ten/world-top-ten-quality-of-life-map.html

Great work on the script Karl, however I have a suggestion. While it's good to have something laid out, let's not rely on it too much. Maybe instead of having a word for word script, it's a little more free form. For example when it gets up to the survey at the end maybe instead of the script where you're basically telling me and Sheridan to take the survey, we know that after we plead the case it's time for me and Sheridan to take the survey.

Yo my homies, I just found a great article that talks about the food culture in Japan. It talks about how it started, all the good things about it and it's popularity in foreign countries. "Japanese Food Culture." Web-Japan.org. N.p., n.d. Web. 07 May 15. http://web-japan.org/factsheet/en/pdf/36JapFoodCulture.pdf
I'm not going to be able to do the powerpoint because I dont know how to transfer a Keynote document to Powerpoint. Also, we need to figure out EXACTLY what our thesis statement is because we have a bunch of fragments but we need to formulate a thesis statement that really captures everyones attention but also gets to the point. Also, we need to separate the actual research and our enactment with the thesis
There is an option in Keynote to save as a PPT. I have done it before. It sometimes alters the format some because of limitations such as not having the same don't options. But, it does work.
"Education in Japan." Sites.miis.edu. N.p., n.d. Web. 07 May 15. http://sites.miis.edu/japaned/intro/ This link has a lot of information ranging from the years that each school level. The rank of the education in Japan compared to other schools, as well as how you get into the schools.

Hey guys I just realized that our presentation is pretty jam packed. So I was thinking that we need to make sure that we don't go over 35 minutes. One of us needs to be watching the clock at all times, this way we know if we can make any last minute decisions if we need to tone it down or potentially cut something out.
I was thinking we don't have the class really involved except for the survey. Maybe during the discussions we try to include them somehow. For example for the college price thing maybe Greg asks someone from the class how much there college is.
Yea we definitely don't want to lose points, on the student participation. Maybe we can even ask a question every now and then to get a quick response. Like maybe while I'm talking about sushi I could say something like, I'm sure some of you guys like sushi, well without out me you wouldn't have it. Little things like this could definitely give us some points in class participation.
Yo will and Greg, I just realized that if you don't have the song memorized it may be a little difficult to play it in class. So maybe you can bring a music class from another class, or if you want one of us can hold it up for you. Hopefully we can get a stand to make t look a little more organized.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of bringing the music into the presentation because it grabs the attention of the class but we have to limit it to what instruments can be stuffed into a school bag or locker, also, it has to be logical and stay on topic, not turn into Karl taking over the show while playing his triangle. Ill take Switzerland, and maybe for the last topic, we can combine government with human rights or maybe talk about it separately.

ReplyDeleteIt pretty much says that chinese people who live in America are fatter than Chinese people living in China. You could talk about how our food is less healthy, or how we're all just fat and sutff. I could maybe talk about how much better the food is and that we have bigger portions for a counter-argument. idunno, lemme know.

dietary habits, physical activity and body size among Chinese in
North America and China. Int J Epidemiol 1994; 23: 984–990
So I was thinking we would have a semi-script thing, maybe it starts out with a few line but most stuff will be generalized like
ReplyDeleteSal: Talk About Chinses household
Greg: Counter with Crowdeness
etc. I think it will make out presentation alot easyer to remember and better than just putting in some bullet points
I dont' see how to attach a file but we should all take turns and just add to this till we are done.

Karl: Is everybody here? China, Switzerland, Japan, German, and of course USA
Everyone: Here
Karl: Well I guess we can start this board meeting on who has the better country. Sheridan, Slideshow.
Greg: Remark on how it’s obviously America
Sheridan: Starts Slideshow Explains the survey and our thesis
Greg: Stands up Is there a point to this we all know America is the best
Will: At what being fat
Greg&Will: Starts argueing
Karl: Enough we will settle this like men, and by that I mean in an orderly action. Sal how about you start it off.

DeleteHowdy Y'all, I was thinking maybe we can try and add something to our presentation to bring the class into the "Meeting" maybe make some "calls" or something maybe put someone on the spot to lighten the mood a little and make it more appealing to the class and not just us trying to impress Mrs. Foti to get a 100 (which we are going to get anyway). Let's brainstorm some ideas

ReplyDeleteRoss, John.

Each of these human rights categories will obviously have an effect on us when we decide to move to whichever country. This website seems extremely useful so check it out.

ReplyDeleteThere is an option in Keynote to save as a PPT. I have done it before. It sometimes alters the format some because of limitations such as not having the same don't options. But, it does work.

ReplyDeleteHey guys I just realized that our presentation is pretty jam packed. So I was thinking that we need to make sure that we don't go over 35 minutes. One of us needs to be watching the clock at all times, this way we know if we can make any last minute decisions if we need to tone it down or potentially cut something out.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking we don't have the class really involved except for the survey. Maybe during the discussions we try to include them somehow. For example for the college price thing maybe Greg asks someone from the class how much there college is.
ReplyDeleteYea we definitely don't want to lose points, on the student participation. Maybe we can even ask a question every now and then to get a quick response. Like maybe while I'm talking about sushi I could say something like, I'm sure some of you guys like sushi, well without out me you wouldn't have it. Little things like this could definitely give us some points in class participation.
DeleteGreg remind me to give you the shirt for your part
ReplyDeleteYo will and Greg, I just realized that if you don't have the song memorized it may be a little difficult to play it in class. So maybe you can bring a music class from another class, or if you want one of us can hold it up for you. Hopefully we can get a stand to make t look a little more organized.
